Track Biography:
The firsts set of National Hunt Committee rules were published in 1889 and Kilkenny Hunt with its long illustrious history of holding point-to-point meets can trace its first meeting back to then. Point-to-point meetings were held under the master ship of Ikey Bell at Lacken, near Bonnettstown in 1909 and from 1914 meetings were at Bishopslough.
Thereafter meetings continued to circulate around the country, 1926 in Ballyfacey, 1927 Rahelty, 1948 Stonecarthy, 1949-1959 Wollengrange, Gowran 1960-1989. From there the point-to-point moved to Brambelstown, Kilbline, Grennan and then to its current location in Damma House.
We hold two meetings during the season, one in November and one in May. Our tracks over the years have seen many winners go on to establish themselves amongst the elite of the racing world, dual Welsh National winner Mountainous and Tranquil Sea to name but a few.

Denis Murphy has already saddled a winner in this division in recent weeks, and the Wexford handler will be hoping that SIGNOFFONTHAT can supply him with a third victory of the campaign. The Blue Bresil gelding had made a promising start to his career in Ballindenisk last spring, with a penultimate fence error responsible for him surrendering the lead, as he ultimately finished third. That should stand to him here. Colin Bowe is not short of options for this, and Mahon Bridge has the previous placed form having finished second on his debut, whilst League Of Legends, Highland Brook and Harper Brown are others that cannot be discounted.

LONE STAR LYRIC hails from a family that Colin Bowe knows well, and having shown progression between each of his two starts to date in Castletown-Geoghegan, he could continue that forward step here. Stablemates Presidential Order, Arthurs Well, Quill And Coin and Impact Sub give the Milestone Stables team plenty of ammunition for this, whilst away from the Bowe stable, Secret Order posted a career best in Tinahely, and it will be interesting to see how he follows that up, as he had the potentially re-opposing Homebytheslaney 17 lengths behind him on that occasion.

SPECIAL PROTECTOR looked to run a career best at Loughrea recently, having changed stables over the off-season, and although she is a 43-race maiden, the eight-year-old finished a fine second last month, and this has the look of a very winnable opportunity. Snow Delight is another eight-year-old and she returned from a two-year absence to finish fourth against geldings in Tinahely, whilst Kaylasjet did have a subsequent winner behind her when fourth at Ballysteen back in April 2025.

WESTERN WISHES claimed a notable scalp when winning in battling fashion on the opening day of the season in Toomebridge. He did reserve his best run last season for his seasonal reappearance, but it could be worth sticking with him here. Sir Topham Hatt acquitted himself well in open company last weekend, and is the obvious danger, whilst Dark Til Daylight, Supreme Walk and Pacheco are among the last-time-out maiden winners.

Desertmore House was successful in this race 12 months ago in what proved to be his one and only outing in an open last season, as he went on to win the Risk Of Thunder Chase over the banks course in Punchestown. The 11-year-old may have more on his plate to repeat the feat this time around, however, with the reigning champion point-to-point horse HEARTS AND SPADES in the line. The eight-year-old won eight races last season, and sets the standard ahead of Carnfunnock, whilst Money Heist fared creditably on his initial outing in this division at Portrush, and has the advantage of recent race fitness.

There is no shortage of track form on offer here, and CHIEFS KINGDOM was the best of these over hurdles, placing at Leopardstown last Christmas off a mark of 106, and having kickstarted his season with a fair effort in Castletown-Geoghegan, he should be primed for this opportunity. Dr Pep has been absent for 18 months, which may leave the recent Umma House third, Beau Coup, or the 89-rated hurdler, Matter Of Opinion, as the main dangers.
